Questions We Get Asked A lot
Layer cakes – All our cakes are filled and covered in Italian meringue buttercream plus other delicious fillings depending on your choice of cake flavour from our menu. Our fondant decorated cakes are filled and masked in Belgian chocolate ganache.
Novelty sculpted cakes –
Our novelty cakes are only offered in a dense and moist Belgian chocolate mud cake specifically made for novelty cakes and filled and covered in Belgian white or dark chocolate ganache, followed by a layer of fondant icing or modelling chocolate. The thickness of the fondant/ modelling chocolate is determined by the design and even though it is made from sugar and it is completely edible, it is not intended to be eaten but of course you can!.
Hand sculpted cake toppers and other edible decorations are made using a variety of edible products, including fondant, wafer paper, tempered chocolate, modelling chocolate and pastillage. They are made as decorations and not intended for consumption.
Yes. We certainly do. Avoid the baking and just get straight to the fun part, cake decorating!
Available for single white, chocolate or caramel mud cake tiers only.
We are more than happy to style the cake using your own flowers for a fee. We will work with your chosen florist and have them supply the fresh cut florals in water prior to the event.
These are florals you have ordered and purchased from your florist.
However, if the flowers are the main decoration and heavily determine the design, in this instance SMCD will source and work with flowers from our own florist to achieve the best possible outcome for your cake.
Custom cake commissions require a minimum order from $350
SMCD creates detailed customised cakes with varied levels of complexity in the design, size, labour intensity and decorative options. This means that there is no set price for any given cake. Pricing is subject to size ( a single tier cake for 30 is going to cost less than a three tier cake for 150 with a complex design with multiple handcrafted design features).

As a general guide:
Single tier cakes from $350
Two tiers from $550
Three tiers from $750
Four tiers from $1500
Fondant decorated cakes start from $450, novelty cakes from $650 and 3D sculpted cakes start from $750
Hand sculpted Figurines start from $125 depending on size and complexity.
Yes, you can.
Please be advised having a fake tier does not significantly reduce the price of your cake. In general you might save roughly from about 5-10% of the total price but the Styrofoam order and processing, prepping and decorating are items still considered. And not to mention working with Styrofoam has it's own complexities which is also factored into the quote.
When deciding to have Styrofoam tiers or not, the main focus should be how much of a WOW factor you want to create with your wedding cake and take into consideration the size of your event and the venue.
If you would like a large cake but you do not need or want to cater for a large number of guests, SMCD can use fake tiers, but please be mindful the creation of your cake will still be a labour intensive one with it's own complexities and using styrofoam tiers will NOT significantly reduce the cost of your cake.
